Description from the seller
This is a vintage Ohio-Sound PX 1200 power amplifier from the 1970s or 1980s, manufactured by the Dutch company Ohio Sound of Tilburg (part of Jac van Ham Automaten).
Device features:
• Brand: Ohio-Sound
• Model: PX 1200
• Type: Power amplifier with two analog VU meters (Left Channel and Right Channel)
• Design: Brushed silver-colored aluminum front panel, side handles, and wooden top and side panels.
• Connections & Controls: Headphone jack, volume step attenuator (Input Level), and various toggle switches for protection and speaker settings. Loudness does not do much in my opinion .
New powercord and VU lights.
Contacts cleaned
Bias checked correct
PA amp is very suitable for hifi home use (class AB) and passive cooling. And is looks fantastic!
I recommend a pre amp or source with eq and volume control.
As documentation regarding Ohio-Sound from the 1970s is very scarce and no digital records were kept at the time, exact factory specifications are limited. However, technical discussions on the Dutch Transistorforum audio platform provide a clear picture of the internal construction and specifications:
Technical Specifications (Ohio-Sound PX 1200)
• Device type: Stereo Power Amplifier
• Transistors (Output stage): The original output stage utilizes four 2N3055 power transistors. This type of transistor is renowned in the vintage audio world as a legendary and extremely robust classic.
• Estimated Power Output: Although the model number "1200" might suggest modern PA wattage ratings, the actual continuous power (RMS) for this type of vintage circuit design—using the 2N3055 configuration—typically ranged from 2 x 60 to 2 x 100 watts at 4 to 8 ohms. At the time, this was more than sufficient to drive powerful speakers in hospitality venues or living rooms.
• Indicators: Two large, illuminated analog VU meters (up to +3dB / 100%).
• Channels: Fully independent control for the left and right channels via Input Level knobs.
• Protection: Equipped with a built-in electronic protection circuit (Protection LED on the front panel).
• Housing: Premium wooden cabinet (woodcase) featuring a thick, brushed aluminum front panel and heavy-duty chrome handles.
Including din adapters
