Exceptional Antique Art Deco Porcelain Half Doll Pincushion – Circa 1920s–1930s

A particularly beautiful and finely detailed antique porcelain half doll pincushion, believed to date from approximately the 1920s–1930s Art Deco period.

This is an exceptional decorative example, featuring a beautifully hand-painted porcelain lady with delicately modelled facial features, soft grey curled hair and an elaborate wide-brimmed pastel green hat decorated with pink detailing and striking orange and pale blue feathers.

The figure wears a vibrant blue bodice with peach-coloured detailing and white cuffs. Both arms are gracefully raised, with beautifully modelled hands and delicate fingers, all of which are completely intact. The porcelain retains its wonderfully vibrant original colours and glossy finish.

An especially attractive feature is the elaborate full pincushion skirt, which gives the piece considerable presence.

The generously proportioned skirt is covered in beautiful silver-grey patterned fabric, embellished with intricate cream floral lacework, dark navy ribbon trimmings, a pale satin waist bow and multiple layers of delicate cream lace around the hem.

The contrasting fabrics, decorative ribbonwork and fine lace detailing create a particularly elegant and sophisticated appearance.

The skirt retains its charming aged appearance, with the elaborate lacework and textile decoration contributing greatly to the overall character of this antique piece.

Condition

The porcelain is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs reported. Both hands and all delicate fingers are completely intact, which is especially desirable in porcelain half dolls with raised arms.

The hand-painted colours remain exceptionally vibrant, with beautiful detail throughout the face, clothing and elaborate hat.

The textile pincushion skirt displays signs of age consistent with an antique piece, including some natural discolouration and wear to the lace and ribbon trimmings. These have been preserved rather than restored to retain the character of the piece.
