Description from the seller
Libyan Desert Glass — The Libyan Desert Glass is one of the most enigmatic and fascinating natural substances on our planet. It is a tektite, formed about 29 million years ago following an extraordinary cosmic event: the impact or atmospheric explosion of a meteorite that released extremely high temperatures, capable of melting the silica sands of the eastern Sahara desert, in the region between Egypt and Libya. The result of this catastrophic phenomenon is a natural glass whose tones range from light yellow to golden green, with milky transparencies and subtle internal hues. The presented specimen preserves all its natural raw form, with rough surfaces and a luster that varies from opaque to slightly vitreous. The light sandy encrustations and natural cavities are authentic testimony to its desert origin. Libyan Glass is not only a geological curiosity but also a material of strong symbolic and historical value.
