Antique wooden and brass drawing instrument case by W. H. Harling London, dating to 1880–1890, with blue velvet lining and brass instruments, dimensions 19 × 10 × 3 cm, origin United Kingdom.
Description from the seller
Superb antique boxes of drawing and precision instruments, signed W. H. Harling, Mathematical Instrument Manufacturer, 40 Hatton Garden, London, dating probably from the late 19th century, around 1880–1890.
The wooden case is lined with blue velvet and contains a fine set of antique technical instruments mainly in brass: several compasses, dividers, ruling pens, drawing instruments, a large graduated semi-circular protractor, as well as an old ruler-scale placed in the lid.
The inner plate bearing the address 40 Hatton Garden, London is a particularly interesting element for identifying and dating the box. Also note on the back of the box an old seal with a crown and the inscription “Reward,” further adding to the historical and authentic character of the piece.
Very beautiful collectible object representative of the equipment once used by engineers, architects, draftsmen, surveyors and technicians. Aged condition with patina, wear, and signs of use visible, consistent with its age. A particularly decorative ensemble and sought-after for a collection of scientific or antique drawing instruments.
Highly sought after in the world of industrial design, scientific curiosities, old medical technology, laboratory optics, steampunk, and rare measuring instruments.
Ideal for a collector, industrial loft decoration, cabinet of curiosities, scientific display case (theodolite, microscope, sextant, compass)
