Description from the seller
Set of 4 Vintage Chairs "Model 811 Prague" in steamed-beech wood and Vienna straw – Drevounia (Czechoslovakia, 1960s/70s)
• Item: Set of 4 dining chairs / accent chairs
• Manufacturer: Drevounia
• Origin: Czechoslovakia (Made in Czechoslovakia)
• Era: 1960s / 1970s
• Model: Inspired by the iconic Model 811 "Prague" originally designed by Josef Hoffmann
• Material: Frame in solid beech wood steamed-bent; seat and backrest in woven Vienna straw
• Brand: Original factory fire stamp "Drevounia - Made in Czechoslovakia" visible under the seat frame
Aesthetic and historical details:
Splendid lot of four chairs produced by the famous Czechoslovakian manufactory Drevounia. This specific model references the famous lines of Modernist and Mid-Century design (in particular Josef Hoffmann’s Model 811 for Thonet), merging the avant-garde bending of beech wood with the tradition of cane weaving. The presence of Vienna straw on both the seat and the backrest gives this set extraordinary visual lightness, geometric elegance, and high furniture appeal.
Under the wooden frame there is the original heat-pressed mark that certifies authenticity, origin, and the historical period to which it belongs.
Condition of the item:
• Frame: The beech wood leg is structurally solid, stable, and robust. It shows a beautiful natural patina with slight, normal signs of wear related to time and use, which attest to the pieces’ authenticity.
• Weave (Vienna straw): As documented in the detailed photography, the weave retains good tension on the backs of each chair; three seats need re-caning, and there are some missing straw fragments.
