Description from the seller
Pietà, probably after Our Lady of Lede – oakwood – Belgium – circa 1920–1950
Professionally shipped – almost 1000 five-star reviews worldwide.
Carved oak sculpture of Mary with the dead body of Christ on her lap. With a lowered gaze she supports her son, while his head and right arm hang. The depiction shows similarities to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows of Lede, a medieval Pieta that, according to tradition, has been venerated there since 1414. The emphasis is on Mary’s sorrow and the bond between mother and son. Under Christ’s feet there is a skull, a reference to Golgotha and to Adam, whose sin is redeemed by Christ’s sacrifice.
Height 30 cm; in good overall condition with a crack from the underside continuing into the base.
Please view the photos carefully, they are part of the description.
Shipped with track & trace.
