Charles Catteau was one of the leading Art Deco designers in Belgium. His reputation in the field of ceramics led him to create designs for the glass industry. Consequently, some of his students became top designers for glassworks located in Manage (Scailmont), Familleureux (Gobeleterie Nationale), and Houdeng-Goegnies (Verreries du Centre). During the 1920s, these companies introduced luxury pieces into their catalogs. The exceptional work produced by these firms is comparable to that of Val Saint-Lambert and the glassworks of Boom (situated between Mechelen and Antwerp). In addition to a catalog of over 150 remarkable pieces produced between 1925 and 1937, the book features essays by specialists covering the history of glassworks and stained glass, glass and ceramics education, glassmaking techniques, and the role of Belgian glass art within Europe.
