Description from the seller
Guido Casci – Notre-Dame des Champs – polychromed plaster – Belgium – probably circa 1938–1950
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
Sculpture of Our Lady of the Fields, seated, depicted with the sleeping Child Jesus on her lap. Mary bows her head to her son and keeps her hands clasped, a calm and intimate portrayal of mother and child. The lamb and the ears of corn connect the depiction to country life and also refer to Christ as the Lamb of God and the bread of the Eucharist. Executed in soft colors with gold-colored nimbus.
Guido Casci worked in the Namur family workshop of his father Jean, to whom the initials “J.C.” may refer. “J.A.C.F.” stands for Jeunesse Agricole Catholique Féminine, the Catholic agricultural youth for girls, which fits this depiction.
In good overall condition with localized paint loss and small damages. Signed on the back “Guido Casci”, with “J.C.” and the date “XXIV II XXXVII” (24 February 1937); on the side “J.A.C.F.” and on the front “N.D. des Champs”.
Please look closely at the photos; they are part of the description.
