Description from the seller
Antique silver Soup Ladle (ladle) made entirely of silver, fineness 800, from the late 19th or early 20th century (Secession/Historyism period). The piece comes from the renowned, luxury atelier of the court jeweler Friedricher Becherer (Hofjuwelier) operating in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Key strengths and features of the item:
Rare decorative motif: the handle is adorned with a beautiful, deep, engraved and chased botanical motif depicting strawberry leaves and fruit (wild strawberry). The design is complemented by flowing, Secession-style lines. No monograms: the surface of the reverse and front is free of historical initials engravings, which is extremely rare and a major collecting advantage.
Complete punches: on the neck of the ladle clearly stamped are the goldsmith’s surname “BECHERER”, the German state assay mark (crescent and crown), the silver fineness mark “800”, and the workshop’s heraldic cartouche.
Condition:
Very good, cabinet condition. Natural, delicate patina in the recesses of the relief beautifully emphasizes the three-dimensionality of the botanical pattern. No repairs, cracks or deep scratches.
Technical specifications:
Material: Silver, fineness 800 (third fineness)
Weight: 122.46 g (solid, substantial silver)
Total length: 30 cm
Bowl dimensions: 7.5 cm x 9 cm (depth approx. 3 cm)
