Description from the seller
DESCRIPTION
Rare and prestigious antique wall mirror dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century (1890-1910), entirely hand-carved from solid wood by a master artisan of the renowned Salentine ebony-carving tradition. Preserved in extraordinary original condition and coming from a private collection, this piece displays an exceptionally high level of artistic and sculptural value. The frame is distinguished by deep chiselled carvings that confer great relief, plasticity, and dynamic visual impact to the entire piece.
The structural frame and the majestic upper pediment feature rich ornamental motifs of Neo-Baroque and Umbertine taste, dominated by a centrally carved shell, elegant flowing scrolls, and intricately pierced acanthus leaves. The original period crystal mirror preserves the valuable beveling with a well-defined perimeter bevel, perfectly inlaid and completely free of cracks. On the back there is a precious distinctive element of great collectible interest: an autograph inscription with the artist’s signature and workshop references, incised directly into the wood grain of the period with a metal-tipped tool. Completing the piece is the original anchoring system consisting of the hand-forged iron hook and its original natural-fiber cord.
