Part of the description
Splendid and elegant Canterano chest with three drawers,
a superb example of Padano-Lombard cabinetry dating to the mid 18th century (the full eighteenth century).
The piece stands out for the extraordinary visual impact of the front, finely veneered in precious walnut burl with mirror-like grains and dramatic flames of great charm. Each drawer is adorned with delicate decorative fillets and framed by substantial black ebonised moldings, which create a refined and clear chromatic contrast with the warm tones of the wood, a hallmark of the Barocchetto style of the period.
The sides, in keeping with eighteenth-century workmanship, are made of solid wood. The structure rests securely on four flattened onion-shaped feet, also ebonised, which elegantly echo the finish of the upper and lower moldings.
The piece mounts its original bronze knobs.

State of conservation and maintenance: Restoration: The piece has benefited from a meticulous conservative restoration carried out about 10 years ago, preserving its structural integrity and aesthetics.
It remains in good overall condition, solid and free from structural defects.
Treatments: A complete antibacterial/termite treatment has been performed to guarantee the wood’s long-term health.
Care and Patina: The piece is regularly cared for and refinished monthly with natural beeswax, a constant treatment that keeps the burl hydrated and enhances its extraordinary original luster, protecting the valuable antique patina.
Technical notes: The internal locks are not present. (The decorative cord with tassel visible on the first drawer is a modern ornamental element inserted for purely display purposes).
Era: 18th Century
Origin: Northern Italy
Materials: Walnut burl, solid walnut, bronze knobs, ebonised parts
Conditions: Good condition, ready to be placed in a home.
