Antique double inkwell in bronze, Neobarocco / Rococo Revival style, dating to circa 1800–1850.
Description from the seller
Antique double bronze inkwell finely decorated – 19th century
Elegant and scenographic double desk inkwell in bronze, presumably European and datable to the second half of the 19th century, characterized by a rich decoration in neobaroque and Rocaille taste.
The large contoured base presents a refined symmetrical composition in relief, with volutes, floral and vegetal motifs, shells, fruits, and fantastic winged figures. At the center of the composition appears a suggestive anthropomorphic mascaron within a sunburst, an element that gives the object a distinctive decorative character.
At the side extremities develop two fantastic winged figures integrated into the base volutes, while the lower part is embellished with a rich fan motif and numerous naturalistic relief elements.
The inkwell retains the two removable cylindrical recipients, each complete with its own domed bronze lid. The edges of the lids and the rims feature delicate gadrooning. The recipients can be completely removed from their respective seats, as documented in the photographs.
The bronze presents a beautiful antique brown-gold patina, with darker tones in the recesses of the decoration and natural color variations on the more exposed parts.
