Such small, detailed busts made of copper alloy were commonly used in Roman times as decorative elements on furniture, chests, or bronze vessels. This specific piece is characterized by the stylized, ball-shaped incised eyes, a tight mouth, and wavy hair that is parted in the middle. On the rear there is often a ridge or pin with which the object was mounted on wood or metal.
