Description from the seller
This impressive Moldavite exhibits an exceptionally vibrant green coloration that ranges from deep forest and olive greens to bright emerald tones depending on the lighting. Particularly under stronger illumination the piece reveals its pronounced translucency and develops a fascinating inner depth.
A distinctive feature is the highly textured surface. Numerous rounded, interlocking depressions and elevations give the Moldavite a strikingly tactile texture. Alongside this, there are glassy-looking areas with typical flow and fracture structures. In backlighting, these different structures become especially evident, creating a lively interplay between light, almost transparent areas and intensely saturated green zones.
Moldavite belongs to the tektite group and formed about 15 million years ago as a result of the enormous meteorite impact that created the Ries crater in southern Germany. The enormous energy released at impact melted earth rocks and hurled them across great distances. As the melt traveled through the atmosphere, it cooled and solidified into the characteristic green natural glass that is today known as Moldavite.
This piece originates from the Czech Republic, the classic find area for Moldavite. In particular, specimens with strong green color, good light transmission, and clearly pronounced surface structure are especially sought after by collectors. Due to the limited mining areas and finite natural supplies, high-quality Moldavite also holds a special position among tektites and collectible minerals.
Moldavite also carries an extraordinary metaphysical reputation. Traditionally, it is regarded as a stone of profound transformation, expanded consciousness, and personal development. It is attributed with especially intense energy that is said to help dissolve ingrained patterns and open up new perspectives.
A characterful natural Moldavite rough piece, distinguished especially by its unusually plastic surface texture, its intense green color, and its impressive effect in backlight.
Our shipping costs have been checked and approved by Catawiki.
We work with an external shipping company that handles the final inspection, collection, packaging, and shipping; this is what gives rise to these shipping costs. In some of the photos the stone has been backlit to show you the color of the stone.
For some stones we have placed a light source under the stone to better display the color of the pieces. And color differences may occur, as every computer, monitor, and mobile device may display colors differently.
