Elegant and unusual vintage Italian alabaster ashtray/sculptural decorative piece, entirely handmade and featuring an original owl decoration.
The square, solid form is carved in the center to create the concave part. The sides are decorated with broad areas in orange and red tones, forming stylized wings, while on one corner the owl’s face is made particularly expressive by the large yellow and black eyes applied and the carved beak.
The natural gray-creamy veining of the alabaster creates a beautiful contrast with the vibrant decoration, giving the object a decidedly Mid-Century Modern look, typical of Italian decorative production of the 1960s and 1970s.
