Description from the seller

Chi - wara - Bambara - Bois - Mali - 62 cm.

Elegant and ancient Bambara female Chi-Wara from the Beledougou region in Mali.
It features a hippotragic antelope carrying its young on its back.
This type of crest was worn during rites associated with Bambara agricultural celebrations.
Here we find a refined and elongated stylization with a long neck and long straight horns.
The wood is hard, the patina dark.
Good overall condition. Only the right ear has been re-glued.
Private collection.
