This impressive crystal opal natural specimen from Ethiopia captivates with its exceptional transparency, its warm, slightly honey-green to olive-toned base color, and a particularly vivid play-of-color.
Within the transparent to translucent opal body unfolds a fascinating blaze of color in intense green, bright blue, strong orange, yellow, and fiery red, which, depending on the incidence of light and the viewing angle, reveals new zones of color time and again.
Particularly striking are the broad orange-red color flashes in the lower and middle areas, interwoven with intense green and scattered electric blues, giving the piece extraordinary optical depth.
The natural rough form with its distinctive irregular outer contour and the clearly preserved areas of the matrix or host rock emphasize the original character of this specimen.
At the same time, selected areas were carefully smoothed and polished, making the underlying opal structure particularly prominent and causing the play of color to seem to glow from within the stone.
Through the combination of transparent opal substance, natural matrix, pronounced depth, and exceptionally intense play of color, it is an exceptionally decorative and characterful collectible for connoisseurs of high-quality Welo and crystal opals.
