Description from the seller

Phoenicia, Arados.
Ca. 400–384 BC.
1/3 Shekel (Silver, 13.6 mm, 2.65 g).

Obv: Laureate head of Ba'al-Arwad to right.
Rev: 𐤌𐤀 ('ma' in Phoenician). Galley right over waves.

Reference: Hoover, Handbook of Coins of the Southern Levant, Type 40.

Arados was one of the principal Phoenician city-states, occupying a fortified island off the Syrian coast. Its powerful fleet and strategic position made it important to Mediterranean trade and Persian naval power. The city retained its own kings and coinage under Achaemenid rule, later submitting peacefully to Alexander the Great and continuing to prosper in the Hellenistic period.
