AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Original drawings by Marten Toonder have always been extremely rare, and that will never change. In 2010, from Toonder’s estate, the physical portion (the original drawings and letters and the like) that Marten Toonder himself created was definitively incorporated into the collection of the Letterkundig Museum Leiden and has since been the property of the Dutch state. See the last photo. The chance that original drawings will come onto the market has therefore become very small.

What is now offered here concerns a sheet on which wonderful drawings were made for planned publications: promotional pieces (booklets, posters, etc.) around “Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel” (If you know what I mean), the film about the story of Heer Bommel and the zwelbast, the story that formed the basis for the full-evening Bommel film. The story about the zwelbast is consistently regarded by connoisseurs as one of the very best Bommel stories ever, something Marten Toonder himself also thought. The drawings now offered secure the charm of the cuddly Zwengeltje. Logical that Heer Bommel would have developed fatherly feelings for it.

The sheet is signed bottom-right and is framed. Frame size: 32.5 x 32.5 cm. This framing is included in its entirety with this lot.

Also see the photos that form part of the description and give a good impression of what is now offered.

This masterpiece will be well packaged and sent to the new owner by registered mail."
