This impressive egg made of natural petrified wood, weighing 4.4 kg, is an extraordinary piece of natural art that has formed over millions of years. During the petrification process, the original wood was gradually replaced by mineral-rich solutions, preserving the unique wood structure to this day.
The intense color variety makes this specimen especially spectacular. Bright red, orange, gold, brown, and amber tones merge into a fascinating play of colors reminiscent of a glowing sunset. The natural grain of the fossil wood runs elegantly throughout the entire egg and is complemented by fine mineral inclusions as well as authentic growth structures. It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks.
Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon.
And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
