Seljuk Bronze Oil Lamp with bird Finials
Date: Ca. 1100–1200 AD
Origin: Seljuk Empire
Material: Cast Bronze
Dimensions & Weight: L: 140 mm × W: 150 mm

An exceptionally Seljuk-era bronze oil lamp combining utility with fine artistic craft. The vessel is anchored by a wide, concave flaring foot designed for stability. Its central rounded reservoir features a hinged lid surmounted by a bird finial, mirrored by a secondary perching bird atop the tall loop handle. The forward-extending arched spout terminates in a characteristic ivy-leaf-shaped wick nozzle. Decorated with intricate surface engraving and kufic inscription, this piece exemplifies the refined metalwork produced for Islamic domestic and sacred spaces during the 12th century.
