A cabinet-sized Romanian sphalerite specimen on matrix with crystal growth, weighing 345 g and measuring 11 cm by 8 cm by 5 cm, featuring quartz and rhodochrosite as supplements from Cavnic, Maramureș.
Description from the seller
Attractive cabinet-sized specimen from the classic Cavnic mining district in Romania, featuring lustrous dark brown to nearly black sphalerite crystals surrounded by delicate pale pink crystalline aggregates, possibly rhodochrosite, and sparkling transparent quartz crystals.
The specimen displays beautiful contrasts between the dark sphalerite, soft pink formations and clear quartz. The finely crystallised surface gives the specimen an attractive sparkle, while the reverse reveals a substantial mass of dark, lustrous sphalerite.
The original historical collection label also identifies calcite, pyrite, wurtzite and tetrahedrite as associated minerals.
Condition: Good overall condition, with minor natural contacts and irregular crystal edges, as visible in the photographs.
Provenance: Old Danish Mineral Collection. The original historical collector's label is preserved and will accompany the specimen.
