Argento 800 silver carafe with a globular body, weighing 791 g, dimensions 26 × 20 cm, made in Italy (Sicily) and dating to 1940–1950, in excellent condition with original 800 marks and Palermo production, handcrafted.
Description from the seller
Presentation Sheet: Carafe / Pitcher in 800 Silver
General Description
Elegant carafe in solid silver, 800 fineness, Italian manufacture, dating to the second half of the 20th century (circa the 70s/80s). The object features a globular body richly decorated with repoussé and chasing motifs, including floral elements and classic volutes. The base is characterized by a refined radial beadwork that gives propulsion to the structure.
Technical Details
Material: Silver 800 millesimal (guaranteed by the original hallmarks).
Total Weight: 791 grams.
Condition: Excellent structural state. The object presents a natural patina of oxidation that attests to its authenticity and age; no significant dents or repairs are evident.
Manufacture: Italian, identified by the maker’s marks.
Analysis of Marks and Punching
From the analysis of the bottom of the object, the following authenticity elements emerge:
Title Hallmark: "800" mark enclosed in an oval, certifying the metal’s purity.
Identification Mark: Punch "77 PA" inside a hexagonal lozenge. This indicates the piece was made in Palermo (PA) by the registered producer number 77.
Author’s Signature: A hand-engraved signature is present (appears to read "Handcrafted" or the silversmith’s signature), underscoring its artisanal nature.
Retail Label: The original sticker from the historic jewelry shop "Di Cristofalo - Palermo" is present, known for high-quality silverware and prestigious wedding lists.
Value Elements for the Expert
Specific Weight: With almost 800 grams of solid silver, the object has a considerable intrinsic value based on the current metal price.
Provenance: Traceability through a historic Palermo dealer and the definite identification of the producer increase its collectible marketability.
Craftsmanship: The complexity of the ornament and the manual repoussé technique elevate the object from a simple household piece to an artistic work. I believe that, if evaluated, it will be polished and photographed better."
