Guanyin with Child & Fish Basket, a 20th‑century Chinese hard‑paste porcelain sculpture in polychrome enamel, about 22 cm high with a 5 × 7 cm base, from China, depicting Songzi and Yulan Guanyin, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Chinese Porcelain Figure: Guanyin with Child & Fish Basket (Songzi / Yulan Guanyin) – Late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period (c. 1900–1930)
Object Details:
- Object Type: Sculpture / Figurine
- Subject: Guanyin with male child and pierced fish basket
- Material: Hard-paste porcelain, polychrome enamelled in overglaze palette (Famille Rose / Wucai palette)
- Origin: China
- Period: Late Qing Dynasty to early Republic period (c. 1890–1930)
- Dimensions: Height approx. 22 cm; base footprint approx. 5 × 7 cm
- Mark / Sign: Unmarked; unglazed flat base showing firing marks and original ventilation aperture
Description:
A finely sculpted Chinese porcelain figure depicting Guanyin in combined iconography: as the Giver of Children (Songzi Guanyin), supporting a young boy upon her left arm, and as the Fish Basket Guanyin (Yulan Guanyin), holding a delicate reticulated openwork basket filled with fish in her right hand.
The figure is executed with a serene, contemplative facial expression and an elaborate high coiffure surmounted by a small Amitabha Buddha figure. Her long, draped robes are rendered in a soft palette of green, aubergine, pale yellow, and black outlines, adorned with Buddhist symbols on the front and circular medallions featuring clouds and stylized birds across the reverse.
Condition:
Very good antique condition consistent with age and medium. Structurally sound with delicate and vulnerable areas—including the openwork basket handle, fingers of Guanyin, and limbs of the child—intact and undamaged. Natural, fine crazing to the glaze and enamel layers. The unglazed base displays characteristic firing traces and light natural patination. No repairs, cracks, or restorations (please refer to the high-resolution photographs for full details).
Shipping & Packaging:
Secure, shock-absorbent double-boxed packaging. Dispatched worldwide via insured courier service with full end-to-end tracking.
