• Period: Art Deco / Interwar (circa 1925)

Style and Decor description
A rare and highly characteristic glass Art Deco vase, made of semi-transparent satin glass. The vase is adorned all around with a high-quality, hand-painted depiction in the typical, fashionable style of the Années Folles (the Roaring Twenties).
Centered on the vase is an elegant, fashionable lady in a richly pleated purple dress and a flamboyant straw hat with a blue ribbon. She leans gracefully forward to smell a flower. Beside her stands a sleek stylized greyhound (lévrier) in deep blue and green-blue tones, one of the most iconic symbols of the Art Deco period. The background is decorated with flowing, stylized branches and blossoms.
The underside of the vase is edged with a striking geometric checkerboard pattern in contrasting yellow and black, giving the vase its strong, architectural Art Deco appearance. The decoration is applied with thick, tangible layers of enamel color and outlined with black contours, a technique frequently used by leading ateliers in the Franco-Belgian border region (such as Legras & Cie and Verreries de Scailmont).
Rarity and Context
Vases by the French designer and decorator Louis Sibille are extremely scarce on the art market. Sibille worked in very limited editions and decorated the glass objects by hand, making each piece unique. The absence of a factory stamp on the underside is in line with the practice of independent ateliers of the period, which bought blank vases and then signed the decoration exclusively. A beautiful and representative collectible object of European Art Deco
