A pair of cylindrical porcelain vases in the famille rose decor, 40 cm high and 15 cm wide, dating to the 1960s–1970, made in Jingdezhen, China, mounted on dark carved wood bases and in very good condition with minor signs of wear and age; one vase bears a red Qianlong mark on the base.
Description from the seller
These are a pair of cylindrical display vases in finely decorated Chinese porcelain, resting on darkly carved wooden bases. The necks of the vases feature a delicate flaring lip decorated with geometric motifs and grey/black lattice lace.
Decorations and Details
1. Front: Floral and Fauna Motif
* Main subjects: On each vase is painted a blooming branch with peonies and flowers in various shades (pink and deep orange) and finely shaded green leaves.
* Birds: Perched on the branches are two small birds in vibrant colors (green, orange and pale breast) facing inward.
2. Back: Calligraphy and Seals
* On the back of the vases there is a long poetic inscription in traditional Chinese characters drawn in black ink.
* Beside the text and at the margins are small red seals (red chops).
3. Base and Mark
* Mark on the bottom: On the base of one vase (image 4) there is a red mark within a square: 乾隆年製 (Qianlong Nian Zhi - "Produced under the reign of Qianlong").
* Antiquarian note: In modern Chinese vases (20th century/Republic era or the latter half of the 20th century), the Qianlong mark is often added as an homage to the style and artistic tradition of the Qianlong period (pink family/style of the court).
If you’d like a specific analysis of the poetry, a translation of the text, or more details on the ceramic style, let me know!
