Description from the seller

Characterful Morse key – brass-colored mechanism with a wooden control knob

When messages still traveled around the world in dots and dashes, the Morse key was the tool beneath the telegraphist’s fingers. This specimen makes that technique visible: a long brass-colored lever, a warmly colored wooden control knob, and an open mechanism on a black rectangular base.

A Morse key works as an electrical switch. By briefly or more slowly closing the contact, signals are created that transmit Morse code. The Smithsonian describes such keys as on/off switches with which telegraphists passed along their messages.

With this specimen, the geometric supports, the visible spring, and the ribbed adjustment screws draw particular attention. The gold-colored metal contrasts beautifully with the black base and the rounded wooden knob. An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of telegraphy, communication history, and mechanical instruments.
