This decoration is not established by the official Belgian state, but by the National Organization of Veterans of King Albert I (Fédération Nationale des Vétérans du Roi Albert Ier - FNVRA), founded in June 1948. The aim of this association was to honor the memory of the "King-Soldier" Albert I and to unite the soldiers (both Belgian and French) who fought under his command during World War I. Since the original WWI veterans have faded over the decades, the association later changed its name to a royal federation for sympathizers.
