The fairy-tale magic of iridescent and lustrous glass is revealed in the work of the world-renowned firm Joh. Loetz Witwe, especially in every peak of achievement, which united artistic design with handicraft and technical perfection. Initially inspired by Tiffany glass, the creative forces of the Bohemian glass factory soon found their own independence, which owes much to Viennese design.

Joh. Loetz Witwe (also Johan Lötz Witwe) was a major art glass manufactory in Klostermühle, Bohemia. Loetz works are among the outstanding examples of Art Nouveau. In the Wottawattal of the Bohemian Forest lay one of the oldest glass works, which in 1850 was purchased by Johann Lötz, the founder of the company, the former owner of the glass factories Deffernik, Hurkental, Annatal and Vogelsang, from his grandmother. In 1879 Max Ritter von Spaun, a grandson of Joh. Lötz, took over the factory from his grandmother and continued it under the old firm "Joh. Lötz Witwe". Similar to the glasses of Louis Comfort Tiffany, Loetz glasses could be produced in Phenomenon-Decor with metallic iridescent color glasses at a very high level. The company had contacts with other manufacturers such as J. & L. Lobmeyr and E. Bakalowits Söhne in Vienna as well as Argentor-Werke. Notable artists who worked with them included Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and the Wiener Werkstätte. The height of the collaboration occurred in the years after 1900. The company was awarded at the World Exposition in Paris and received honors in Chicago and St. Louis. Art Nouveau works by Joh. Loetz Witwe can be found in several museums and fetch high prices at auctions.

A splendid antique typical Loetz glass vase from the Art Nouveau founding period 1900! Silver Iris (Gold Iris), ground. Thickly applied silvery-yellow powder makes the glass opaque and gives it a characteristic deep iridescence. With a flat stand, pear-shaped body and a short, lightly flaring neck. While iridescent glass was produced by many glass manufacturers from 1900 to 1925, Loetz stood out not only for the quality of their iridescent glass but also for using exotic shapes to complement their plainer decors such as Silver Iris.
Under a different light – its color and its irresistible shine change! An exceptionally beautiful design and a fantastic eye-catcher for any collection or a modern ambiance!
