Description from the seller
Magnificent original antique map of Paris dating from 1883, depicting the French capital at the end of the 19th century.
This historical map offers a detailed view of Paris a few years after the major urban transformation works undertaken under the Second Empire. The main boulevards, neighborhoods, monuments, green spaces and transportation routes are shown with precision.
The document allows observing the city’s organization at a pivotal moment in its history, as Paris establishes itself as one of the world’s great metropolises and would host the Universal Expositions a few years later that would contribute to its international prominence.
The Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, the Seine, the main arrondissements and the network of major Parisian arteries appear clearly, offering a remarkable testament to the capital in the nascent Belle Époque.
This map is both a first-rate historical document and a superb decorative object for lovers of Parisian heritage, urban planning and ancient cartography.
