Leandro Lega's ceramic wall plaque Acquario, a high-relief piece with iridescent lustre, is hand-signed and dated 1970, produced in Faenza, Italy, with dimensions 5 cm high by 17 cm wide and 17 cm deep, in excellent condition and finished in lustre.
Description from the seller
Leandro Lega (Faenza, 1924–2002) - Iridescent relief ceramic plaque in art-style glaze (Twentieth Century / Art Nouveau)
Rare and important high-relief ceramic wall plaque created by the well-known Faenza ceramist and painter Leandro Lega (1924–2002).
The piece, titled "aquarium", depicts a full-length girl figure as she pours water from a pitcher. The modeling is plastic, fluid and expressive, strongly influenced by the informal and modern taste of the mid-20th century and by Art Nouveau stylistic references.
Workmanship and High-Gloss Finish:
The exceptional feature of this piece lies in the complex and successful lustre glaze (lusterware), a technique for which the Faenza master was renowned. The vitreous surface presents spectacular metallic iridescences that shift from golden green, to bronze, with touches of deep cobalt blue on a finely textured background.
On the back of the plaque is the original workshop signature painted in black glaze: "LEGA / FAENZA".
The work also retains the original metal hanger on the back for wall mounting.
