Description from the seller

Rare Carriage/Travel Clock "Ansonia" with Alarm and Caryatids – Gilded and Burnished Brass – United States – Late 19th Century

Fascinating and sumptuous carriage clock (vertical display) produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company (New York, USA) at the cusp between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This model stands out for the extraordinary richness of the eclectic case, enriched by sculptural decorations and equipped with the alarm complication.

* Artistic Case: Entirely made of heavy metal (brass/burnished bronze) with a refined two-tone patina alternating darkened areas with gilded reliefs. The structure is punctuated at the four corners by splendid female figures in high relief in the Caryatid style, topped by a thick entablature with foliate motifs and a solid articulated rope-wrapped handle for transport.
* Main Dial: White enamel (or porcelainized) enclosed by faceted glass. Displays a chapter ring with black Roman numerals, minute track, and classic blued steel hands. Under the central pivot stands the prestigious factory mark of the Ansonia Clock Co.
* Alarm Function: In the lower part of the dial is a very small subsidiary dial with Arabic numerals (1-12) and a dedicated hand for setting the mechanical alarm.
* Finishes: The side panels and the back of the case feature rich geometric and floral relief decorations, typical of the Historicist and late Victorian taste of the period.

* Height: 11 cm] (excluding handle)
* Width: 8.5
* Depth: 6.5
* Weight: 950 g

Overall condition very good for its age. The case retains a magnificent original patina with slight and charming signs of wear that testify to its authenticity.

Mechanical: "The movement is complete and functioning, but as with all antique clocks, a small service/lubrication after transport is recommended"
Therefore sold as non-working
