AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Polychrome Earthenware Plate – Colorful Floral Decoration, Late 18th Century

Small in size, rich in color and character. This delicate plate with a 17.5 cm diameter draws attention with a lively floral decoration on a white-cream ground. Deep blue flowers, purplish-brown petals, green leaves, and warm yellow-orange accents form an exuberant whole.

The central bouquet is framed by a decorative border in which flowers and leafy tendrils recur. The visible brushstrokes give the painting a lively, artisanal character.

The combination of blue, green, yellow, and manganese-like purples aligns with the decorative tradition of 18th-century polychrome Delft earthenware. Flower bouquets were a popular subject in that tradition. (justloveantiques.com, aronson.com) This specimen is attributed to the late 18th century; the exact maker and dating have not been independently confirmed.

On the rear there is a blue-painted mark. It cannot be reliably attributed to a specific plate-maker. A cord for hanging is present on the stand ring.

A charming collectible that shows beautifully in a display cabinet, on a sideboard, or among other historic ceramics.
