Antique oval tin “Victoria” – Moorish-inspired relief, Aesthetic Movement style – cookie/tea tin on a stand with ring handles
England, circa 1900
Decorative oval tin with a hinged domed lid and a bulb-shaped knob. The wall is embossed and engraved with a Moorish/neo-Islamic geometric pattern of stars and rosettes, alternating with foliage motifs and fine ornamental bands. On either side there is a spherical handle with a loose ring. The tin sits on an oval footplate with a Greek key pattern and two shell-shaped feet. The interior is gold-colored lacquered or gilded, and the lid has a hinged inner rim.
At the bottom is embossed the name VICTORIA with a figure logo in an oval. This logo and the text also appear on the inside bottom.
The style (Moorish/Aesthetic Movement, Greek key motif) dates to ca. 1880–1900.
In good used condition, with signs of wear and spots. Discoloration in litho-printed front.
