Bolex Paillard B8 8mm cine camera with a functioning mainspring motor and smooth controls, presented as a unique art/design reinterpretation inspired by 1950s Milan.
Description from the seller
We are offering at auction a unique and exclusive piece: the historic 8mm Bolex Paillard B8 cine camera, an icon of Swiss precision mechanics produced in the 1950s, reinterpreted with a personalized artistic finish.
The concept and design:
The photos shown and the body finish depict the vibrant atmosphere of Milan in the 1950s, a milestone in commercial revival, design, and the economic well-being of post-war Italy. The graphic work portrays historic Milanese scenes (the Duomo, Central Station, the classic yellow trams, and the lively city life), celebrating the metropolis that in those years looked up toward modernity.
The graphic work was carefully selected from several conceptual alternatives and produced with a color rendering in desaturated hues, giving the object a perfect vintage charm and an aesthetic visually integrated with the era of the camera’s production.
Technical restoration and new coating (Leatherette):
The original finish has been replaced with an innovative high-strength technical material.
It offers a pleasant tactile feel and a good grip.
Resistant to oily solutions and prolonged use, it provides protection and allows the object to be not only a display piece but also ready for use.
Technical specifications:
Brand: Bolex Paillard (Switzerland)
Model: B8
Format: 8mm (Double 8 / Spool)
Two-lens turret: mounts original high-quality Kern-Paillard lenses (Yvar f/2.8 36mm and Yvar f/1.9 12.5mm).
Mechanics: manual winding motor, frame rate adjustment (8-64 fps).
Condition and state:
Aesthetic: discreet, custom art/design intervention.
Mechanical: The spring motor operates normally, the aperture and speed rings turn smoothly.
