Description from the seller

Art Nouveau Dinanderie Cache-pot / Jardinière on claw feet – Mauquoy Dinant (Belgium) – circa 1900-1910

A splendid and extremely rare antique Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) cache-pot / jardinière, crafted in the historic center of copper and brass smithing art: Dinant, Belgium.

This top piece of high-quality Dinanderie bears on its underside the sought-after and prestigious maker’s mark of Mauquoy Dinant, complete with the official city coat of arms.

The globular flower pot is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The wall around is decorated with a beautifully driven and chiseled relief of stylized floral Art Nouveau motifs and graceful whip-like lines. This decoration is set against a very refined, hand-hammered (martelé) background. The deeper parts are subtly accented with a light patina, giving the organic patterns a fabulous depth.

The object rests on three monumental and detailed claw feet and is equipped on the sides with two robust, stylized knob handles. A museum piece of Belgian decorative arts heritage from the early 20th century!
