Description from the seller
Gio Ponti – Fratelli Calderoni, Milan – Tea and coffee service in 18/10 stainless steel with tray – Italy, circa 1960
Tea and coffee service of Italian design from the twentieth century, designed by Gio Ponti (1891–1979) for the historic Milanese manufacturer Fratelli Calderoni.
The service, composed of four coordinated pieces, represents a refined example of postwar Italian design, characterized by the essentiality of forms, the balance of proportions, and the meeting between functionality and elegance.
The set includes four items in 18/10 stainless steel: two pots, one of which with a hinged lid, a sugar bowl with lid, and a large serving tray.
The project stands out for the purity of cylindrical shapes, the distinctive ribbon-like handles, and the semicircular grips of the lids, expressions of the functional elegance of mid-20th-century Italian design.
The proposed items bear the original CALDERONI FRATELLI – STAINLESS STEEL 18/10 – MADE IN ITALY mark, with capacity indicators in centiliters.
The service is in excellent condition, without deformations or dents, with only slight superficial signs compatible with its age.
A splendid piece of Italian mid-century design, particularly suited to Gio Ponti collectors and enthusiasts of Italian modernism.
The formal language is exemplary of Gio Ponti’s creations for Fratelli Calderoni, also documented in catalogs of major international auction houses.
