AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

This object is a beautiful example of antique Delft blue earthenware, dating from the 18th century (c. 1740–1780). This specific type of decoration with a vase full of flowers was extremely popular in Delft plate-making workshops in the 18th century (such as De Porceleyne Bijl or De Vergulde Blompot) and was often executed in a Chinese-inspired style (Chinoiserie). At the bottom of the plate you will find the mark of De Porceleyne Bijl)

Dimensions: 23.3 cm (diameter)

Weight: 483 grams

Condition: not restored (see photos)

- signs of wear present (edge)

Central motif: On the flat of the plate is a hand-painted floral vase filled with a bouquet of stylized roses and tulips.

Border decoration: Around the central scene there is a geometrical checkered or meandering ring (inspired by the classical Greek key or Chinese Chinoiserie carving). The outer edge is decorated with cartouches filled with floral and foliate motifs.

Materials and finish: The plate is made of tin-glazed earthenware. The characteristic ochre-colored or reddish-brown outer rim (the unglazed or lead-glaze-finished shard that shows through the glaze) is typical of authentic 18th-century Delftware.
