Description from the seller

CATALOG DESCRIPTION – ITALIAN

Pair of Fischel bentwood chairs – Art Nouveau – early 20th century

Elegant pair of antique original bentwood chairs, attributable to the Fischel manufactory, an important historic European producer specialized in bentwood work.

The chairs display a structure highly characteristic of Central European production from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century. The presence of the original manufacturer’s label under the seat constitutes an important identification element.

Style and era

* Manufacturer: Fischel
* Era: early 20th century, approximately the first decades of the 1900s
* Style: Art Nouveau / Jugendstil, with influences from the Viennese bentwood furniture tradition
* Provenance: Central European area
* Material: bent beechwood
* Color: dark walnut/brown
* Quantity: 2 chairs

The structure is characterized by elegant curved elements, tapered legs and lower circular supports. The backrests and seats are particularly decorative: both feature refined floral and foliate incised/sculpted ornamentation, with symmetric motifs of scrolls, leaves and flowers.

This type of decoration gives the chairs a very distinctive and sought-after appearance, setting them apart from simpler bentwood café chairs.

The chairs retain a beautiful original patina, with color variations, abrasions and signs of age that attest to their age and use.

Conditions

Vintage/antique condition with evident normal signs of time and use, as visible in the photographs.

There are finish abrasions, small scratches, color variations, surface wear and some areas where the finish is more worn. Small holes and traces compatible with historical woodworm presence are also visible, especially on the lower parts of the structure and the seat.

One of the two chairs shows a small defect on the rear of the backrest, clearly visible in the photographs: traces of an old intervention/repair are noticeable, with residues of glue and a small imperfection on the rear panel. The defect has been left visible and not hidden, precisely to accurately document the object’s condition.

As with any antique wooden furniture, a preventive anti-woodworm treatment is recommended before placing the chairs in a domestic environment.

The structure overall preserves the characteristic bentwood construction and the ensemble presents a pleasant authenticity, without being brought back to modern conditions.

Please carefully observe all the photographs, which form an integral part of the description and show the real condition of the item.

Use

Ideal as dining chairs, desk chairs, decorative seating or as pieces of furniture for:

* historic homes
* study rooms and libraries
* restaurants and bistros
* boutiques
* vintage interiors
* Art Nouveau furnishings
* collections of Viennese and Central European furniture

An interesting collectible pair, particularly suitable for those seeking antique bentwood furniture with original decorations.

Indicative measurements

Per chair, based on comparable documented Fischel models:

Height: about 85–90 cm
Width: about 38–45 cm
Depth: about 38–48 cm
Seat height: about 46–48 cm
