Description from the seller
The ancient Antinori family has been in Florence since the early 13th century. It is a family of merchants who, among many activities, combine that of wine producers and merchants, which over time will come to be the predominant one. The family’s involvement in wine production and marketing will become increasingly important, and by the time the vineyards were already known to several clients outside Italy in the sixteenth century, wine would remain the family’s passion and main activity to the point that in 1898, with the foundation of the “Fattoria dei Marchesi Lodovico e Piero Antinori,” the possessions and farms were transformed into a true modern and organized enterprise. It was founded by the two sons of Marquis Niccolò — direct descendant of the Niccolò who in 1506 had purchased Palazzo Antinori — who had already done much to make Tuscan wines known worldwide and to establish them as a product of high quality. The first vintage of Santa Cristina, the 1946 vintage, was introduced by Marquis Niccolò Antinori, father of Piero Antinori.
