Bronze Viking-era pendant in a drop shape, 41 mm high and 29 mm wide, with a raised geometric motif on the front, dating to the 10th–13th century AD, in good ancient condition with patina and wear.
Description from the seller
Culture / Region: Viking era
Period: Approx. 10th–13th century AD
Material: Bronze / copper alloy
Dimensions: Height: 41 mm – Width: 29 mm
Condition: Good ancient condition. Complete, with visible age-related wear, corrosion and mineral deposits. The suspension hole is preserved. No modern restoration apparent.
An attractive medieval bronze pendant of drop-shaped form, decorated on the front with a bold raised geometric motif composed of curved and angular compartments. The ornament creates a strongly structured composition of adjoining geometric fields, typical of the abstract decorative vocabulary found on medieval personal ornaments.
The pendant narrows towards the upper part and is provided with an integral perforation for suspension. The reverse is undecorated and shows the irregular surface and mineral deposits associated with prolonged burial.
The surface is covered by an extensive natural green patina, ranging from deep green to turquoise-green, with areas of brown cuprite and earthy encrustation. Minor surface porosity and wear are visible, but the principal decoration remains clearly legible.
