Description from the seller

Rare dinner service produced in England by Johnson Bros. in the 20th century.

The service is decorated with the pattern "Regency Snowhite", one of the most famous in the manufactory, characterized by repeated ripples on the rim of the plate.

The set is complete for 6 people and consists of:
6 dinner plates
6 soup plates
6 appetizer or dessert plates
1 gravy boat
1 salad bowl with a defect

Johnson Bros. was founded in 1883 in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, by brothers Alfred, Frederick and Henry Johnson (to which the fourth brother, Robert, later joined). They became famous for "White Granite", a very durable earthenware similar to porcelain but as sturdy as ironstone. From the late 19th century they rapidly expanded into the United States, where theirTransferware decorations became iconic.

In 1968, to meet increasing competition, Johnson Brothers became part of the Wedgwood Group.

In 2015, after Fiskars, the Finnish company, acquired the Waterford Wedgwood group, production under the Johnson Brothers brand was officially halted.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
