Today at the auction I am pleased to present to you
The icon of world design – the Aalto vase (also known as the Savoy vase), produced by the renowned Finnish brand Iittala.
This design was created in 1936 by one of the most important Scandinavian architects and designers, Alvar Aalto, together with his wife Aino.
The characteristic, wavy and organic shape of the vase was inspired by the Finnish landscape – the line of the shores of nearby lakes and the form of traditional, leather pants of Finnish Eskimos.
The vase gained immense fame after being showcased at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937.
The version shown in the photo is made of white opal glass (double-layered). Each original vase of this brand is traditionally hand-blown in a glassworks in Finland.
