Solid walnut wood tallboy dating to 1850–1900, made in Lombardy, Italy, featuring a solid construction, three wide framed drawers with vegetal inlays, a lockable top, and a sculpted base.
Description from the seller
Solid-wood construction with severe proportions, featuring three wide framed drawers decorated with symmetric vegetal inlays. The front presents ring handles and shaped escutcheons; the upper cornice protrudes prominently and the base rests on a shaped plinth. The photos show more clearly the quality of the inlay, the antique hardware, and the internal construction.
Elements useful for dating:
• Back in broad, irregular solid boards, with non-industrial workmanship.
• Drawers in solid wood and traditional construction.
• Antique hardware, slotted screws; patina and wear compatible with the age.
Good condition for its age, with normal wear from use and on the surface. Abrasions and small losses localized to the inlays and wooden parts are visible, as well as traces of old wood-boring activity on the back and in non-visible areas. The interior paper lining of the drawers appears to be later. The hardware retains a clearly legible historical patina.
The rear structure of the drawers, the joinery and the hardware further support a dating to the late 18th century and the early decades of the 19th century, rather than a later 19th-century hypothesis. Attribution to Northern Italy, and in particular to a possible Lombard area.
