Description from the seller
Jan van Oort (1921 - 2006) designed during World War II the comic character Paulus the Forest Elf whose adventures were published from 1946 in Het Vrije Volk. Van Oort called himself "Jean Dulieu" (French translation of "Jan van Oort"). In addition to the 8,000 newspaper appearances, Paulus appeared in color in a large number of magazines and children's books (translated and published in many countries). The watercolors Dulieu created for this are, one by one, small works of art.
Dulieu was a jack of all trades, a versatile and virtuoso artist whose skill and talent kept pace with his pursuit of perfection. Jean Dulieu received many prizes for his work and is counted among the "Big Three": Marten Toonder, Hans G. Kresse and Jean Dulieu.
This lot contains a magnificent, large (13 x 8 cm) and very finely executed drawing that was published at some point. It is very early work from Paulus. Look at the virtuosity in the drawing and the extremely refined line work. Dulieu was unique with such refined line work. Delicate and virtuoso with the pen. The mimicry, the composition... only the greatest can do this.
The artwork is signed in the top left corner.
The drawing will be securely packed and sent to the new owner by registered mail.
