Description from the seller
Marcel Bosma is a Dutch graphic designer and illustrator, affiliated with Comic House. He studied at the Graphic School in Utrecht and debuted in Appèl, the magazine of the soldiers’ union. His first strip he drew for the 'Wordt Vervolgd' section in Han Peekel’s Avro’s Televizier program (the strip 'IJs & Co'). He drew strips such as 'Jip en Jolien' and 'Poes' on scripts by Marjolein Winkel for the Tina magazine and regularly contributed to the monthly De Fabeltjeskrant. In addition, Bosma provided illustrations for merchandise of 'Alfred Jodocus Kwak', based on designs by Harald Siepermann. In 1992 he made a comic adaptation of *Flodder in Amerika* (1992), based on the eponymous comedy film by Dick Maas and with a screenplay by Maas and Wijo Koek. Originally Martin Lodewijk was in the frame as illustrator, since he had designed all the film posters for the series. Lodewijk sketched two panels, but was so busy with other work that he left the assignment to Bosma. Bosma also produced illustrations for De Zaak and various advertising materials. For PLUS supermarkets’ 2013 holiday book he reworked the characters from the chain’s TV commercials into comic figures.
"IJs & Co" is therefore the very first comic series by the Dutch illustrator and graphic designer Marcel Bosma. He created this comic debut specifically for the well-known television program and the contemporaneous program magazine Wordt Vervolgd by Han Peekel (aired by AVRO on Avro’s Televizier).
This lot contains an original daily strip from Ijs & Co. The very beginning of this strip. Original strip drawings from Bosma’s Ijs & Co are virtually not in circulation and are thus extremely rare. A unique opportunity.
