Two Chinese cinnabar lacquer vases (18 cm high, 5 cm wide, 5 cm deep; 400 g) dating from 1960–1970, hand‑carved lacquer over a metal/brass core with mirrored figurative scenes and blue enamel interior framed by brass edges, in good used condition with minor aging marks.
Description from the seller
Front: A lively naturalistic scene with two learned men in dialogue, immersed in a mountainous landscape with trees carved in high relief.
Back: The figure of a sage in solitary meditation, symbolizing a quest for spirituality and harmony with nature.
Neck and Floral Motifs: The slender necks of the vases are richly adorned with dense engravings of floral motifs (lotus flowers and stylized peonies) on a background of trailing vines and recurring botanical scrolls.
Meander Handles: The upper part of the neck is embellished with two elegant stylized “meander” handles (Greek key*), a traditional Chinese symbol of continuity and prosperity.
Interior and Base: The interior of the neck and the outer bottom base are entirely coated with brilliant blue enamel and edged with a gilt-brass border.
