Autograph signatures of Francisco Serrano and Juan Prim on a 1870 document from the Sexenio Democrático, titled Firmas Generales Prim y Serrano. Sexenio democrático. España; two-page item, 22 × 32.5 cm, Spanish language, in Bien Conservada BC condition.
Description from the seller
Autographed signatures of Francisco Serrano (Regent of the Kingdom / head of State) and Juan Prim (President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of War). Year 1870 (a key year in Prim’s assassination).
This document is a key piece of the Democratic Sexennium (1868-1874), specifically from the Regency period of Serrano under the 1869 Constitution, and brings together the autograph signatures of the two most influential military leaders and statesmen of the era: General Juan Prim and General Francisco Serrano.
Concession of the rank of Army Commander to Captain of the General Staff Corps Don Blas Casado y Ortega, by virtue of the decrees issued after the 1868 Revolution (“La Gloriosa”).
• General Juan Prim y Prats:
He was the true architect of Queen Isabella II’s fall in September 1868 and the central political figure of the liberal democratic regime. In February 1870, the moment this document was signed, he served as President of the Council of Ministers and tirelessly sought in European parliaments a candidate for the Spanish Crown, a task that culminated with the election of Amadeo I of Savoy. Prim was assassinated a few months after this signing, in December 1870 (Turco Street assassination in Madrid), which makes any document signed by him during his time in government a highly valuable piece due to the temporary scarcity of his mandate.
• General Francisco Serrano y Domínguez:
Leader of the Liberal Union and victor of the decisive Battle of the Puente de Alcolea (1868). After the approval of the monarchic and democratic Constitution of 1869, the Cortes named him Regent of the Kingdom (1869–1870), temporarily assuming the functions of head of State until a new monarch arrived.
Magnificent original document of the period, complete and in excellent condition.
A precious piece of collection and Spain’s history.
Excellent piece with no reserve price. Great opportunity.
