AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A beautiful and rare antique mechanical reception bell from the French Belle Époque period (circa 1880–1900).
This special collector's item is officially marked on the underside by the well-known French maker J.P. Paris with the inscription: “Nouveau Timbre J.P. Dit Électrique Breveté S.G.D.G. Paris”.

Although the inscription "Dit Électrique" (so-called electric) states, this bell does not require batteries or cords. It is a fully mechanical masterwork with a winding mechanism. After winding, a single press of the button produces a beautiful, rapidly vibrating bell sound that at the time was intended to imitate the modern electric bells.

The initials "J.P." on these French bells stand for the Parisian clockmaker and instrument maker Jean Pégand (often simply referred to as J. Pegand, Paris).
Around the turn of the century (ca. 1890–1910) he filed patents for innovative mechanical timepieces and bells. His specialty was combining traditional gearwork with clever mechanical features, such as mimicking a modern electric trill signal via a manually windable spring.

An absolute showpiece for collectors of antique clocks, instruments, or unique office decor!
