This pair of Jugendstil candlesticks in bronze and brass, in the Art Nouveau style, dating from 1900–1910, measures 33 cm high, 20 cm wide and 8 cm deep, is in reasonable condition and is likely made by WMF in Germany.
Description from the seller
This pair of Jugendstil candlesticks is made in the Art Nouveau style (in Germany and Austria also called Jugendstil). And presumably manufactured by the WMF company (no mark on the candlesticks).
The specific designs with geometric and stylized floral elements generally date from the period around 1900–1910.
The main features of this style that appear in the candlesticks are:
• Organic, flowing lines:
The graceful, curved arms rising from the base evoke stylized plant stems or branches.
• Stylized floral motifs:
At the bottom of the foot and at the top of the central shaft there are subtle, stylized floral decorations and leaves visible (often characteristic of the geometric tendency within the Jugendstil).
• Material use:
Objects of this type in that period were often made from materials such as patinated bronze, brass, or tin.
Look at the photos to get a good sense of them.
